The past year has been a demanding and at times trying year for Good Shepherd but through it all, the faithfulness of God has shown through and made this the most fruitful year of our congregation. the blessings of the past year really began in February 2010 when, after 3 years of renting a space to meet on Sunday mornings, the Lord led us to and enabled use to purchase a building to renovate into our new church home. though we soon realized as the Israelites found out when they finally reached the Promised Land (the second time) just arriving didn't mean our work was done. In the contrary, our labor was only just beginning.
While the building was sound and held promise, it still needed gutted and remodeled on the inside into what would be an appropriate layout and building for our church. But God has blessed us with a congregation of people not afraid to roll up their sleeves and take on an obstacle for the cause of Christ. With literally 1000's of hours of volunteer labor from a small coterie of faithful men and women, and the sacrificial giving of the congregation as a whole, the work was completed. On March 6, Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene celebrated moving into their new home.
As anyone who has gone through a building project can tell you, a 13+ month renovation project of this size can be a physical and psychological drain on all those taking part in it. This is where we have seen the empowerment of the Holy Spirit at work in the mightiest way from the beginning to end. When our strength would begin to falter, when spirits would become downtrodden, when nerves frayed, and when our tempers became short, it was the grace of God breathed upon the group that would sustain and move us forward. These experiences have taught us anew that God's grace is sufficient and that our weakness is an opportunity for the power of Christ to dwell within us. How fruitful it is to learn this lesson.
Though we've moved in, the building is not yet complete. There are cabinets to be installed, decorating to be done, and a whole host of projects that we wish to undertake in the days to come. But praise God for these challenges too because they remind us that God is still at work on His Church as well. And that is what all of the toiling and sacrifice has been about. The greatest blessing is that through this all the people of Good Shepherd have not lost their focus. We exist solely to help one another become more Christ-like disciples and to present to others the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In conclusion, let me reiterate what a tremendous past year that God has given us at Good Shepherd. I look forward to sharing how God has used our congregation and the tools that He has provided us to continue the work of His Kingdom.
